“Lighted by laughter, the kind of light that never goes out.”
– Conrad Aiken.
Conrad Aiken | Elizabeth Fry | Malcolm Lowry | Radclyffe Hall
Our bedrooms and suites are named after the writers, artists and reformers who are associated with Jeakes House.
For example, Conrad Aiken, the American poet, novelist and critic, who bought the House in 1924.
All the rooms have been carefully and individually restored to provide all the elegance and comfort you’d expect from a fine, boutique English B&B.
Naturally, you’ll have a hairdryer, and a hospitality tray in your room, not to mention luxuriously fluffy towels, face cloths and bath-robes.
Please note that the architecture of a house this age means steep stairs and uneven floors; let us know if you have any mobility problems.
When you arrive, please park right outside Jeakes’s House in Mermaid Street; we’ll help you unload your luggage and direct you to our private car park, just three minutes’ walk away.
